About the Venue
Most couples first see the Lake Palace in photographs, and the photographs don’t prepare you for how small the island feels once you’re standing on it. It’s about four acres of white marble sitting in the middle of Lake Pichola, with the City Palace on one shore and the Aravalli hills on the other.
The Mewar family built it in 1746 as a summer retreat, and you can still tell. The rooms open onto courtyards, there are fountains where you’d expect corridors, and the evening light on the marble goes from white to a soft gold around sunset. That’s when we usually schedule the first photographs.
There’s no road to the front door. Guests take a boat from the mainland jetty and step off at the palace steps, so the crossing becomes the first event of the wedding whether you plan it or not. Cars and yachts can be arranged for the wedding party if you’d like something more private.
Book the whole palace and it’s yours. No other guests, no shared lobby, no strangers in your baraat photographs.
